"Who is Corduroy Jim?".. No one knows...he seems to be elusive and the subject of lore... What does Corduroy Jim sound like? Aha! Now that we can help you with!
Originally founded in 1999 by singer-songwriter Marty Rodriguez, Corduroy Jim is the manifestation of several bands that is now a six piece American roots rock outfit. Filling out the lineup of "CJ" is Nick Chargin on keys & vocals, Rich Thomas on lead guitar & vocals, Michael Palladino on the drums & vocals, Steve Strom on bass, and Jon Hassan on saxophone. The lads pride themselves on being able to play just about anything at anytime, but let's get a better idea of "their sound".
With one foot planted in the golden age of 70's rock and the other always looking forward, Corduroy Jim spans the gamut of American music including boogie, funk, folk, soul, blues, jam, pop, and even rock's old cousin, country. To put it into context, "If Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young had a love child with Led Zeppelin, was adopted by Stevie Wonder, had Pink Floyd & Jerry Garcia over for dinner, then dropped them off for the night to be watched over by The Beatles, only to be kidnapped by U2, rescued by REM, and then finally delivered to Jeff Buckley's front porch, well then, their you have Corduroy Jim. It goes on....you get the idea.
This band is the epitome of versatility and pushes the envelope of their own creative ideas in the studio and live. Their third and most recent record, "Cinco", has received terrific response from their fans and a glowing review from Jam Band Friendly Magazine:
The band is gaining buzz and new fans every day and is now going regional with tours as they try to take their sound to new places and turn on new listeners. Corduroy Jim is proud to call San Jose, California their home. Thanks for stopping by and we hope to see you very soon at one of our shows or just loitering in the park..... -CJ
"The group, formerly called Mescalito, was formed in 1999 by singer/guitarist Martin' Rodriguez and combines all the best elements of contemporary pop-rock, from Neil Young folk harmonies to the soaring arena rock of U2" -Garrett Wheeler SJ Metro
